In May of 2021 I took a road trip and drove from Washington DC to Colorado. One of the highlights was visiting the town of Estes Park high up in the Rocky Mountains. Estes is the home of the infamous Stanley Hotel, which served as the inspiration for Steven King’s “The Shining” after he stayed there for a single night in 1974. The venue was also used in the movie “Dumb and Dumber” as the Danbury Hotel. Although I composed the original version of the music years prior, the video was recorded as I wandered through the maze garden outside the front entrance to the hotel, with no apparent exit. The uninhibited blowing on tenor sax and bass clarinet captures the spirit of madness that inhabits this iconic place.
