In 2017, due to unforeseen weather circumstances (7 days of non-stop rain) I cancelled a camping trip in the Shenandoah Valley and instead flew down to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. The way of life here is dictated by the water that surrounds the island, and the natural beauty of the ocean (and lack thereof from environmental destruction) reminded me of life’s origin in the seas. The delicate ecosystem of the coral reefs has changed drastically in recent times, and I captured what remains of the beaches and rivers around the island as part of the impressionistic video.
Astrologically speaking, the Zodiac water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are emotionally fluid and prone to change in accordance with their shifting moods and physical surroundings. In this multi-faceted composition, I explored these mercurial qualities to embody the ever-changing nature of this elemental sign.
